What does it mean to be a Baruch Bearcat?

Success is never defined by regular season wins, but by championships and postseason victories.

Individual accomplishments are greeted warmly, but only if they help produce a championship team.

Your teammates are not just another name on the roster, but the person that will test you at practice and encourage you in games.

Most importantly, you strive to excel academically and walk away from Baruch College with the skills to help you become a well-rounded future leader.

The Mascot

The mascot was first unveiled during the fall sports season of 2005.

Over the past year, thanks to the wonderful leadership of the Cheerleading & Dance Team and its Head Coach Hanna Burris, the mascot has made a signficant number of appearances at many athletic contests, including conference tournaments.

The mascot is an important tool in fostering school spirit, and has helped established a reputation to give Baruch one of the top fan bases in the tri-state region.

Lexington Avenue Classic

The Lexington Avenue Classic is one of the most popular events in athletics.

How popular?

On February 8, 2006, the athletic department, with the strong leadership of the Office of Student Affairs, hosted a basketball doubleheader against fierce rival Hunter College.

A major marketing campaign that concluded with the unveiling of BaruchAthletics.com, along with promotional material such as large banners around campus and postcards mailed to every undergraduate student, resulted in a complete sellout.

A gym record 1,500 fans attended the doubleheader with a waiting line that went as far as the first floor. In the future, the concept will grow and include several other sports.

The Next Level

There is a popular saying among coaches and staff…the next level.

In the past four years, the Bearcats have increased the number of teams winning CUNYAC championships, and thereby participating in the exciting postseason tournaments (NCAA, ECAC, NECVA, etc.).

The next level means winning more games and teams getting into more postseason tournaments.

It is not about just getting to the postseason, but actually winning and striving for a national championship.

Finally, in order to compete regionally and nationally, Baruch strive to win the CUNYAC Commissioner’s Cup Trophy every year.

The Bearcats have now won the trophy in 2005-06 and 2006-07.

Senior Day

The Athletic Department, in conjunction with the head coaches, will host a special Senior Day event during the final home game of the regular season schedule.

The event can be quite emotional as friends, administrators, and family all come together to support a student-athlete in their final home event as a senior.

Baruch College is extremely proud of all its student-athletes that have graduated and always return in the following years to support their former teams.

Alumni Events

The athletic department shares the vision of Baruch College in trying to reach out to alumni, especially former student-athletes.

The athletic department has now hosted its first two Hall of Fame dinners, which are now an exciting part of Alumni Reunion Weekend during every October.

This dinner will honor the many individuals that have helped bring prestige and recognition to the college, thanks to their success and hard work.

During the year, the athletic department will also host alumni events for each of our sports.

We invite our former student-athletes for a special game between alumni or against the current team.
