City Tech Stun Bearcats in Double Overtime (2-1)
BOX SCORE
The men’s soccer team lost a 2-1 double overtime contest to City Tech in their regular season finale on Wednesday night at the Met Oval in Maspeth, New York.
The match entered the halftime with no goals scored, but the Bearcats quickly scored one minute into start of the second half.
Jason Lopez began the scoring play at midfield and found Brian Wright on the right wing as he attacked toward the goal. Wright quickly pulled back on the ball and sent a cross into the box that Igor Polisski headed home for his fourth goal of the season and 1-0 lead.
The Yellow Jackets from City Tech (3-11, 3-5, 9pts CUNYAC) would tie the match nine minutes later. Rafael Jara back-heeled a pass from the top of the box toward the right wing to a trailing Andrei Reznikov and he beat the defense for the tying goal.
The Bearcats consistently pressed for the go ahead goal, but were stopped on a penalty kick attempt with 17 minutes left in regulation. They also hit the post in the second overtime period and would out-shoot City Tech by a final tally of 25-13.
City Tech ended the match with an unassisted sudden death goal by Hugo Urgiles at 3:43 of the second overtime period.
The men's soccer team finish the regular season in second place in the CUNYAC standings (York def. John Jay 1-0 to clinch first place).
The Bearcats will host a quarterfinal playoff contest (opponent TBA) at the Met Oval next Wednesday, October 28, with kick off scheduled for 5:00 pm.
