Bearcats Win Three at USMMA Quad

The women’s volleyball team won all three of their matches on Saturday afternoon at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Tri-Match in King’s Point, New York.
The Bearcats swept Kean and William Paterson from the New Jersey Athletic Conference with 3-0 sweeps. They also defeated the host school U.S.M.M.A. by a 3-1 scoreline to raise their overall record on the regular season to 21-7.
Against William Paterson (25-16, 25-23, 25-21), the Bearcats were led by Christina Pierre with 11 kills and Lauren Hayden 10 kills with a .400 hitting percentage. Carissa Hoover was outstanding with 10 aces. Melinda Santiago dished out 36 assists.
Against the host school U.S.M.M.A. (25-23, 25-10, 19-25, 25-17), Hayden notched 11 kills and Pierre finished with nine kills in the four set victory. Mayra Estepan collected 11 digs and Posey Wilson had a team-high 25 digs. Melinda Santiago finished with 30 assists and 12 digs.
In the final match against Kean (25-12, 25-12, 25-16), the Bearcats recorded a quick victory with Hayden leading again with 10 kills (.667 hitting percentage). Wilson collected 25 digs and Santiago had 25 assists and 10 digs.
The women’s volleyball team will return to action on Tuesday, October 27, with a 7:00 pm home CUNYAC match in the ARC Arena against Medgar Evers College. Please note this match is a revised date.
