Women's Volleyball Finish in Second Place at CUNYAC Finals

The women's volleyball team lost in three to CCNY in the CUNYAC Final on Friday night at CCNY's Nat Holman Gymnasium.
The top-seeded Bearcats put up a strong effort and had support from various varsity teams in attendance, but second seeded CCNY swept the final match by the scores of 25-12, 25-21, 25-18 to earn the championship trophy.
The Beavers (24-12) received 17 kills from Melissa Blass and 14 kills from Floriana Garo to lead the team to their first NCAA appearance since 2004.
The Bearcats received another balanced effort as four players totaled five or more kills this evening. Lauren Hayden led the way with a team-high eight kills, while Christina Pierre notched six kills. Mayra Estepan had five kills and 10 digs. Martina Micko had five kills and seven digs.
Melinda Santiago was busy again with 21 assists, while Posey Wilson (17 digs) and Edita Muminovic (12 digs) both had a solid match defensively.
The Bearcats began the afternoon by defeating Lehman College in the semifinals in four sets (25-13, 25-18, 16-25, 25-16) to advance to the final and record win #26 on the year. The 26 wins is the most since the 1995 season.
The Bearcats are currently 26-8, and will now seek to earn a berth to the ECAC Metro/Upstate Championship Tournament, which starts next Wednesday, November 11. The entire field will be announced on Monday night by the ECAC.
