The #4-ranked men’s volleyball team swept Hunter College on Friday night to win their fourth CUNYAC Tournament Championship in the past five seasons.

The Bearcats pounded out 45 kills (.179) compared to Hunter’s 35 (-.017) to record a 30-24, 30-27, 30-27 score line to defeat the rival Hawks for the third time this season.

The two teams were meeting in the championship match for the fifth consecutive year and ninth time overall in the 24-year history of the CUNYAC men's volleyball tournament.

Sequiel Sanchez, who was named the CUNYAC Player of the Year, was also named the Tournament MVP with a strong championship performance of 13 kills (.280) and eight total digs. Ivan Andujar successfully led the offensive attack again with 40 assists and four total digs.

The Bearcats advanced to the final by sweeping York College (30-10, 30-13, 30-13) in the semifinal played earlier this evening at host site Hunter College.

In addition to the championship this evening, the CUNY Athletic Conference also announced the 2010 award winners, as voted by the league head coaches. Allison Stack was named the Coach of the Year, while Pablo Oliveira, Ivan Andujar and Santos Rivera were all recognized for an outstanding regular season with First Team Honors.

The men's volleyball team still have three regular season matches left and will next resume action on Thursday, April 1, with a 7:00 pm home contest against #5-ranked Vassar College. Prior to the match, the team will honor their five seniors.
