COMPLETE EVENT RESULTS (Yards)

For the second consecutive year, the men’s and women’s swimming teams each won the CUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Lehman College on February 3-5, 2011.

The women, led by the Top Performer of the Championship Priscilla Arana, recorded 998 total team points to easily defeat second place Hunter College with 786.

Arana led the women to a dominant finish with one of the top performances in CUNYAC swimming history. The junior won seven events (three individual, four relay), and broke the CUNYAC Finals record in every one to also total seven gold medals.

The women also received gold medal winning performances from Julianna Fricchione (500 Free, 1,650 Free, 200 Fly), Julia Sung (200 IM, 100 Back, 200 Back), Alyssa Lubrino (50 Free, 100 Free), and Apolonia
Cieslak (100 Fly).

Jia Feng (200 Free Relay, 200 & 400 Medley Relay), Gigi Garcia (400 Medley Relay), and Jacqueline Smith (800 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay) were all winning members of relay teams.

The men, led by the CUNYAC Sportsmanship Award Winner R. Michael Shiwnath, totaled 1,059.5 points to out-distance second place College of Staten Island with 864.

The College of Staten Island placed a first place finisher in 17 of the 20 male events, but Baruch’s depth totaled enough points with high finishes to comfortably record their second consecutive championship.

The team of Kevin Kim, Kenny Kim, Ryan Flynn and Shiwnath finished in second place in the 200 Free Relay. Kenny Kim and Shiwnath also combined with Jeffrey Wong and James Chang to finish second in the 400 Medley Relay.

The team of Gabriel Yanez, Jeffrey Wong, Ryan Flynn and Kevin Kim were victorious in the 800 Free Relay.

Freshman Nick Smith, who is also an important player on the nationally-ranked men’s volleyball team, won the One Meter Diving event (346.45) and broke the CUNYAC record in the process.

The swimming teams will next turn their attention and prepare for the regional Metro Conference Championships that will take place on February 18-20, 2011, at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
