Seven Softball Players Named All-Stars

The CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) on Tuesday, May 17 announced the top award winners and all-stars for the 2011 spring softball season.

The team was honored with four players being named CUNYAC First Team All-Stars, while three players earned Second Team All-Star honors. The awards are voted on by the eight softball coaches in the conference.

Nicole Flint, a native of Brentwood, New York and Brentwood High School, was named a CUNYAC First Team All-Star. The sophomore totaled 13 victories (148.2 IP, 112 K) on the pitching mound and batted .330 at the plate with nine doubles and 14 RBI.

Idelissa Lluveres, a native of the Bronx and Aquinas High School, batted .311 with two homers and 13 RBI to earn her second career CUNYAC First Team honors. The senior also smacked nine doubles in 27 starts.

Michele Runko, a native of Middle Village, New York and Francis Lewis High School, batted .316, with two homers and 14 RBI. The senior outfielder also totaled five doubles and two triples at the plate.  

Ashley Brandow, a native of Staten Island and Tottenville High School, earned CUNYAC First Team honors for the second straight season with a team-leading .376 batting average with 19 RBI and seven doubles.

Elizabeth Santos, a native of Babylon, New York and Babylon High School, is the first of three Baruch players to be named CUNYAC Second Team All-Star. The sophomore outfielder batted .263 with 17 RBI.

For the second straight year, junior
Melanie Pellegrino was named a CUNYAC Second Team All-Star. The Brooklyn native and Edward R. Murrow High School graduate batted .297, with one home run and six doubles in playing all 40 games at the tough shortstop position.

Carmen Pagan-Colon, a native of Ponce, Puerto Rico and junior from Stevenson High School in the Bronx, rounded off the Second Team honors by batting .253, with 18 RBI and eight doubles at the important catcher position.
