If you wish to become a Baruch College Student Athlete, please follow these simple step-by-step instructions before each season and you will be eligible to become a Baruch Bearcat.

Am I academically eligible to become a Student-Athlete?

Requirements:

1. You must be a full-time student at Baruch College. A full-time student is an undergraduate enrolled in 12 or more credit hours.

2. You must have a 2.0 cumulative grade point average or higher.

3. NCAA Division III rules state you have four years of eligibility for each sport you participate in. You must complete those four years of eligibility within your first 10 semesters of being a full-time college student.

4. Graduate Students are only eligible if:
a. You have graduated from Baruch College
b. You have not completed 10 semesters of full-time study.

The Steps to becoming eligible.

Medical Clearance:

1. If you are a walk-on or trying-out for the team, you will need to sign the “Assumption of Risk” form and turn it into your Coach or Athletic Trainer, Naomi Chang, BEFORE you can participate and complete the Sports Medicine Questionnaire as soon as possible to stay eligible.

2. If you are a new or returning player, you must complete the entire Sports Medicine Questionnaire and return it to the Athletic Trainer, Naomi Chang, BEFORE your first practice! They will be accepted after July 1.

YOU CAN NOT PARTICIPATE IN ANY ATHLETIC CONTEST UNTIL ALL OF THESE FORMS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED AND RECEIVED BY THE ATHLETIC TRAINER (Naomi Chang).

How do I get a physical?

You may receive a physical from any Medical Doctor (MD, DO). The Student Health Center offers free physicals to Baruch College students. You need to call or stop by to make an appointment in order to receive a physical. Regardless of where you receive your physical, you must take the Annual Physical Form from the Sports Medicine Questionnaire packet with you and have it signed and stamped by the doctor.

Do I need Insurance?

No, you are not required to have health insurance to be eligible to become a Baruch College Student-Athlete. However, it is strongly recommended to have at least accident insurance that covers intercollegiate athletic injuries to help decrease out of pocket expenses.

Baruch College offers all students a comprehensive insurance plan through GHI/CUNY Student Health Insurance CLICK HERE.

All Baruch College Student-Athletes are covered under Baruch College’s Insurance Plan, which is a secondary plan for orthopedic injuries occurring during supervised practice or games. If the Student-Athlete does not have primary insurance, they are responsible for a $150.00 deductible per injury that must be paid by the Student Athlete should Baruch College’s Insurance Plan be implemented.

NCAA Compliance

If you have any intention of playing for a Baruch College Athletic Team, you must complete the NCAA Eligibility Form and turn it in to Baruch’s NCAA Compliance Officer- Allison Gunther on Level B1, Room 105. This form is then sent to the Registrars Office and any colleges you have transferred from to determine how many semesters of eligibility you have remaining here at Baruch College. This process may take up to a couple of weeks, so please complete it as soon as possible. You CAN NOT participate in any athletic contest until you have been determined eligible.

STUDENT-ATHLETE STATEMENT

When can I pick up a uniform?

1. The coach has informed you that you have made the team and will be receiving a uniform.

2. You have completed and turned in the Sports Medicine Questionnaire to Athletic Trainer (Naomi Chang).

3. You have completed and turned in to the NCAA Compliance Officer (Allison Gunther):
a. The NCAA Eligibility Form

4. Your eligibility form has been reviewed and it is determined you are eligible.

5. You have obtained the “White Card” with both the Athletic Trainer’s and the Compliance Officer’s signatures.
