The men’s swimming team opened their conference schedule on Tuesday night against the College of Staten Island.
The Dolphins won, 150-81, but the young Bearcats put up a good battle against one of the conference favorites.
Junior Brian Ramirez (Diamond Bar, California/Walnut) led the Bearcats by winning the 50 Free and finishing second in the 100 Free event.
Sophomore R. Michael Shiwnath (Elmhurst, NY/St. Francis Prep) had another strong meet by finishing second in the 200 Individual Medley and 100 Back.
Sophomore Justin Wong (Brooklyn, NY/Stuyvesant) was victorious in the 100 Breast.
On the relay end, the Bearcats finished second in the Medley Relay behind the efforts of Wong, Camilo Reyes (Bogota, Colombia/Woodlands), Carlos Nieto (Brentwood, NY/St. Anthony's), and Igor Gorodetskiy (Staten Island, NY/Petrides).
Ramirez, Shiwnath, Eugene Karabanov (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech) and Tony Zhang (College Point, NY/Bronx Science) all finished second in the 200 Free Relay.
Karabanov also placed second in both the 200 Free and 100 Butterfly events, while Reyes qualified for the ECAC.
