Richard Stockton Edge Men's Basketball (67-65)

12/1/2007 5:16:55 PM

The Ospreys of Richard Stockton College of New Jersey pulled out a 67-65 victory to defeat the Bearcats on Saturday afternoon in the ARC Arena.

The non-conference game was tightly contested with 13 lead changes and 10 ties throughout, but the visitors scored key baskets down the stretch to clinch the road victory to improve to 3-1 on the season.

The Bearcats took a lead of 58-57 on a lay up by George Kunkel (Glendale, NY/Archbishop Molloy) with 4:29 left, but the visitors scored the next seven points, including a 3-pointer by Fran Kelly (Wildwood, NJ/Wildwood Catholic), to take a 64-58 advantage with 3:05 remaining.

That six-point cushion was enough to eventually hold on for the 67-65 victory in an early season battle between CUNYAC and NJAC schools.

The Bearcats did have an opportunity to win the game at the buzzer, but a 3-pointer missed to end the exciting affair.

The Ospreys had five players in double-figure scoring to lead a balanced attack, led by Kelly with 15 points on five 3-pointers.  Junior forward Jerome Hubbard (Neptune, NJ/Neptune) scored 13 points and notched three steals.

Baruch also had five players in double-figure scoring, led by Kunkel with a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds. Freshmen guards Lionel Hilaire (Rockaway Beach, NY/Archbishop Molloy) and Tammer Farid (Woodside, NY/Stuyvesant) each scored 12 points.

Baruch will next begin their conference schedule on Tuesday night with a 7:00 pm road game at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
