The women’s volleyball team lost in three sets to #22 nationally-ranked Eastern University in the first round of the 2012 NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship Tournament played on Friday afternoon on the campus of Salisbury University in Salisbury, Maryland.

The Bearcats struggled to begin the match but improved considerably as the afternoon progressed. Unfortunately, Eastern powered their way to a 25-7, 25-15, 25-18 opening round victory to advance to the second round.

Eastern totaled 40 kills to finish hitting .323, while the Bearcats had 22 kills hitting .046.

Lauren Hayden led the Bearcats in Baruch’s third-ever NCAA match with six kills and seven digs. Michelle Stommes (5 digs) and Jessica Wu (11 digs) finished with five kills each in the tough loss.

Melinda Santiago dished out 16 assists.
