Softball Takes Two From Rival Hunter (6-2, 4-0), Team Perfect at 8-0 in CUNYAC

The softball team swept a very important CUNYAC doubleheader against rival Hunter College Hawks on Saturday afternoon at Randall's Island Field #12.

The Bearcats even their record at 9-9 overall and stay perfect in the CUNYAC at 8-0. The Hawks drop to 6-20 overall and 2-4 in the CUNYAC.

In the first game, eight different players had a hit each in a balanced effort for the victory. The two teams were tied at one heading into the fourth inning, but the Bearcats exploded for four runs on five hits to take control.


Toniann Donde recorded a sacrifice fly RBI, while Nicole Flint hit an RBI single and Courtney White had an RBI double. Megan Ruiz scored on a passed ball to round out the big fifth inning in the game.

Flint, the CUNYAC Pitcher of the Week, stayed dominant on the mound against conference opposition with a complete game seven hitter with two earned runs and two strikeouts.

In the second game, Flint did not let up and pitched a shutout with two hits allowed and two strikeouts in the 5-0 victory.

The Bearcats did all the damage with two runs in each of the fourth and seventh innings.


Deena Farrell and Gianna Doukas each had an RBI single for the 2-0 lead in the fourth inning. Donde, Flint and White each recorded an RBI single in the seventh for the eventual 5-0 shutout.

The Bearcats will return to action on Tuesday with a 5:00 pm non-conference doubleheader at St. Joseph's College of Patchogue on Long Island.
