Swimming Teams Begin Season With Home Opener Against William Paterson

FULL RESULTS

The men's and women's swimming teams home opener took place against William Paterson University, a Metropolitan Swimming Conference competitor, on Wednesday night in the ARC Aquatic Center. Both teams fell in an excruciatingly close meet.
 
The Bearcats wore pink bathing caps and pink shirts at the meet in support National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
 
Final Scores:
Women 108 - 97
Men 107.5 - 97.5
 
Point Scoring System (All events in meters)
Relays: 11 (1st Place), 4 (2nd Place), 2 (3rd Place)
Individual: 9 (1st Place), 4 (2nd Place), 3 (3rd Place), 2 (4th Place), 1 (5th Place)
 
Despite the loss, records were broken and both teams had great swims from their freshman to upperclassmen.
 
Women's Highlights:

In the first event of the meet the 200 medley relay composed of
Adrianna Martinez, Sally Lim, Daniela Giraldo, and Rachel Samuels won first place to start the meet of on a high note.

Lim continued her winning ways placing first in the grueling 800 freestyle, with a time of 11:01.50, and the 400 freestyle, with the time of 5:19.48.
 
Samuels placed first in the 50 freestyle, with a time of 29.85, and was second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:08.50.
 
Giraldo arose dominant in the 100 butterfly, with the time of 1:11.23, and was second in the 200 freestyle with at time of 2:28.11.
 
Martinez placed second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:54.99, and also placed second in 100 backstroke with a time of 1:19.24.
 
The women finished the night with a hard-fought victory in the 200 freestyle relay with the team of
Safiya Sergeant, Jessica Lin, Adriana Stosic and Amy Sung.
 
Men's Highlights:
 
Junior and team captain
Jacky Lau placed first in the 200 freestyle with the time of 2:02.39. He later went on to win the 100 backstroke, breaking his own school record with the time of 1:01.93.

Freshman
Eric Wang came first in the 200 I.M. with the time of 2:18.15. In the very next event, he continued to dominate in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.67.
 
The duo of freshman
David Scholes and Miguel Meza placed one two in the 400 freestyle, with respective times of 4:46.02 and 4:51.40.
 
Another duo that placed 1st and 2nd was
David Pejovic and and team captain Jonathan Hla in the 100 breaststroke with the respective times of 1:12.61 and 1:14.33.
 
Freshman
Andrew Lubrino placed second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 58.45 just missing the victory by .18 seconds. He tied (a rarity in swimming) for second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.95
 
The men's and women's swimming teams plan to make a splash against CUNYAC opponent College of Staten Island on Thursday, November 6th at the ARC Aquatic Center.

The women's squad looks to extend their unbeaten conference record to 31, as they have not lost a conference meet since the 2008-'09 season. Whilst the men get a chance to battle last years' CUNYAC Champions.
