Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Win Streak Reaches Five, Defeat Goucher 66-56

The men's basketball team defeated Goucher College of Maryland, 66-56, in a non-conference home contest on Thursday afternoon in the ARC Arena.

The Bearcats won their fifth game in a row by taking control early building a 29-17 advantage en route to leading at the half, 35-26.

They never allowed the visiting Gophers to get into rhythm as they maintained a mostly double-digit advantage throughout the second half.

The Gophers did manage to get as close as six points (58-52) with 2:41 left, but layups by Emil Purisic and Mohamed Gueye pushed the lead back to double-figures again, 62-52, with a little over a minute left. That was enough to clinch the Holiday week home victory.

Gueye led the Bearcats and narrowly missed a double-double with a game-high 17 points and nine rebounds to go along with a career-high seven blocks.

Purisic also missed a double-double scoring 13 points and nine rebounds to go along with five assists.

Three other Bearcats each scored nine points with Gerard Nicholson, Devin Nicholson and Jehmehl Fair (five assists) all contributing to the home win.

Neither team had great team stats, but the Bearcats were just better and more effective, especially on the defensive end with a season-high 11 blocks.

The visiting Gophers from the Landmark Conference drop to 2-9 on their season schedule. Darrell Green led them with a double-double of 13 points and 15 rebounds.
