The women's basketball team lost a tough 82-60 contest to the Saxons of Alfred University in a Hoops for Hounds Classic contest played on Friday afternoon at Lycoming University in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
The Saxons from the
Empire 8 Conference started strong hitting nine of their first 19 shots to lead 24-13 after the first period.
The Bearcats battled back in the second period hitting 11-of-16 shots to cut the score to 42-37 at the half behind 10 points (4-4 fg) from
Mia Castillo and six from
D'Andre McRae (3-5 fg).
The Saxons took control in the third period quickly building a 54-39 advantage en route to leading 64-47 that put the non-conference contest out of reach.
Castillo led the Bearcats with 18 points, while
Elissa Leung had 13 points and seven rebounds. McRae finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Grace Rittenhouse led the Saxons with 23 points.
The Bearcats fall to 6-6 and will next focus on their most important part of their schedule the CUNYAC as the second half of the season resumes next Tuesday at York College.
