Men's Basketball Win Streak Now Stands at 7

The men's basketball team is off to a 2-0 start in the early season CUNYAC standings following an 84-68 victory at York College on Tuesday night to begin 2023.

The host Cardinals started strong building a 15-5 advantage and would later grow it to 31-18 midway through the first half before the Bearcats exploded for a game-busting 15-0 run behind four 3-pointers by Devin Nicholson and one by Michael Gannon to take the lead 33-31 with 6:49 left before the break.

The Cardinals broke the run with a free throw but Emil Purisic scored a layup for a 35-32 score.

The scoring went cold for both teams over the next two minutes until Devin continued his hot hand with a jumper for a 37-32 score.

The Bearcats finished the first half strong leading 44-37 and they carried the momentum into the second half with more hot shooting to lead 61-41 with 15:55 left en route to the victory in Queens.

Devin Nicholson scored a career-high 28 points (6-9 3fg), while Purisic finished with a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Mohamed Gueye, the CUNYAC Player of the Week, added his own double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

The bench was another big factor in the win tonight scoring 38 total points compared to just five by York's bench.

York struggled shooting in the second half (11-36) and were led in the scoring column by Terrell Fullerton with 20 points and 11 rebounds in their home loss.
