CCNY Downs Bearcats in Friday Night CUNYAC Clash

The men's basketball team lost a tough 70-62 CUNYAC home contest to the Beavers of CCNY on Friday night.

The visiting Beavers arrived motivated and built up a 10-point (38-28) halftime lead.

The Bearcats (2-1 CUNYAC) tried to take control early at the start of the second half on quick back-to-back baskets by Sayeed Osorio to make it 38-32, but the visitors responded with four straight points to go back up 42-32 with 16:38 left.

The Bearcats got as close as six points again twice during the second half, including 62-56 with just 3:26 remaining, but the Beavers (3-0 CUNYAC) scored the next six points to put the game out of reach leading 68-56 with 1:04 left.

Neither team shot the ball well this evening, particularly from three, but the Beavers received 31 points from their bench and hit timely shots for only their second win in the ARC Arena since 2007.

Devin Nicholson was top scorer again with 12 points followed by Michael Gannon with 11 and Gerard Nicholson with 10 as the team's winning streak came to an end at eight in a row.

Yassine Sakhi led the Beavers with 19 points and eight rebounds.
