Softball Finishes Second at CUNYAC Championship

The softball team finished in second place at the CUNYAC Championship Tournament played on a very hot Friday (88 degrees) at Brooklyn College.

The Bearcats started the day eliminating Hunter 4-0 in their first game to advance to play in the CUNYAC championship against John Jay, but despite a very solid effort, lost to the Bloodhounds 5-2 in the sixth game of the championship tournament.

Against Hunter, Carly Quint pitched the 4-0 shutout allowing only 5 hits and striking out 2. The Bearcats received timely hitting with Milagros Arias smacking an RBI single to put the Bearcats up 1-0 in the second inning.

The game stayed 1-0 until the Bearcats broke it open with 3 runs in the fourth inning. Mia Faddah scored on a wild pitch, Jordyn Schwartz had a SAC fly RBI, and Megan Bell hit an RBI single to score Grace Osuch for the 4-0 scoreline that eventually finished as the final score.

The Bearcats lost to Hunter yesterday but bounced back today to defeat and eliminate Hunter out of the tournament.

In the second game, the Bearcats started strong with a pair of runs in their first at-bat on RBI singles by Quint and Danielle Petrunti.

The top-seeded Bloodhounds responded with a run in their next at-bat and added two more in the third to jump ahead 3-2. They finished off the win with two more runs in the fifth inning for the 5-2 scoreline and and championship.

Yesterday, Quint recorded her 100th career hit. Today, Petrunti also reached the milestone with her RBI single in the first inning against John Jay.

Game 4: #1 John Jay defeated #3 Hunter, 9-1 (5 innings)

Game 5: #2 Baruch defeated #3 Hunter, 4-0 (Hunter is eliminated)
Game 6: #1 John Jay defeated #2 Baruch, 5-2 (Baruch is eliminated)
