The women's basketball team dropped a 78–39 non-conference decision to the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Wednesday night in Kings Point, Long Island.
The host Mariners started strong, shooting 48 percent in the first quarter and controlling the glass with a 58–41 rebounding advantage to secure the home victory.
Long Island native Lola Idir led the Bearcats with 16 points, connecting on 4-of-8 from three-point range, while Precious Mitchell came off the bench to pull down eight rebounds.
For the Mariners, Emily Grasseler paced four players in double figures with 24 points and 10 rebounds.
The Bearcats will return to action on Friday when they travel to Philadelphia to compete in the Scarlet Raptors Classic, hosted by Rutgers–Camden. Baruch will face the hosts at 8:00 p.m.
