The men's soccer team lost a 2-1 conference home game to Medgar Evers on Wednesday night at the Met Oval in Maspeth, Queens.
The loss drops the Bearcats (9-6-2. 5-2-1 CUNYAC) into second place, while the Cougars of Medgar Evers (6-9-1, 5-3 CUNYAC) advance to third place.
The Bearcats started the game on a positive note with senior midfielder Soung Foon Choa (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafyl) striking a free kick over the defensive wall from 23-yards for a 1-0 lead at the 11:23 mark.
The Cougars answered three minutes into the second half to tie the game on a penalty kick by Horatio Thompson (Brooklyn, N.Y./Saint Jago).
Baruch seemed to catch break at 50:19 when Lerone McIntosh (Brooklyn, N.Y./Foreign) was red card for a hard foul, but despite the one-man advantage the rest of the game, they could not find the second goal.
The Cougars did get the second for the game-winner at 63:35. Striker Orion Gordon (Brooklyn, N.Y./Signal Hill) took a long cross from Hugh Chin (Brooklyn, N.Y./Jamaica College) on a counter attack to beat the goalkeeper for the 2-1 score.
Baruch, the confirmed # 2 seed in next week's CUNYAC Tournament, will await the remaining conference schedule to be played this weekend to discover their quarterfinal round opponent next Wednesday night (Time TBD) at the Met Oval in Maspeth, Queens.
