BOX SCORE
(TEAM NOTE: The game this upcoming Saturday at SUNY-Maritime will now kick off at 2:00 p.m., instead of 4:30 p.m. Please plan accordingly.)
The men's soccer team lost a 1-0 non-conference home battle to Rutgers-Newark on Monday night at the Met Oval in Maspeth, Queens.
Scott Anderson (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) scored the lone goal at the 20:30 mark of the first half. He took a cross in the box from Austin Langston (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) and fired a shot for a 1-0 lead that stood up the rest of the game.
The Bearcats (5-4-1) almost managed to get on the board first in the 8th minute, but a header by Daniel Wright (Brooklyn, N.Y./New Paltz) hit the right post and bounced away.
Rutgers-Newark (3-7-1) had the better of the scoring opportunities all evening, but a solid effort by freshman goalkeeper Nelson DiBastiano (Queens, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) with seven saves kept the game close.
Rutgers-Newark doubled up the Bearcats in shots (16-8), and had 12 offside calls against them (eight in first half) in the game.
The game also featured a rough battle on the field with a total of 33 fouls (Baruch 15/Rutgers 18) called in the game, including one red card to Baruch's Thomas Louisy (Gros-Islet, St. Lucia/Sir Ira Simmons).
Baruch will look to shake off the loss this Wednesday night with a home conference game against CCNY. Kick off at the Met Oval is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
