Surging Bearcats Defeat Brooklyn (3-1) & John Jay (3-0) to Stretch Volleyball Win Streak to Six

The women's volleyball team won a pair of conference matches on Columbus Day at the CUNYAC Multi-Match Event hosted by Hunter College.

The Bearcats (9-13, 4-3 CUNYAC) swept John Jay (30-26, 30-26, 30-17) and beat Brooklyn in four (30-13, 26-30, 30-13, 30-15) to run their winning streak to six matches.

In the 9:00 a.m. match against John Jay (4-15, 2-4 CUNYAC), sophomore Brianne McCabe (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) had a big day with 16 kills, two service aces, and four digs.

Freshman Myra Estepan (Jackson Heights, N.Y./Francis Lewis) recorded 27 assists and nine digs, while sophomore Nicole Baruffaldi (New York, N.Y./Ossining) notched eight kills.

In the 1:00 p.m. match against Brooklyn (7-7, 4-3 CUNYAC), McCabe recorded 13 assists and 11 digs, while sophomore Alice Livermore (Westbury, W.T./Clarke) had 10 kills.

Lizmarie Vasquez (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman) recorded 16 digs to help close out the victory against Brooklyn.

The Bearcats will return to action this Saturday with a home non-conference match against the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Baruch College Alumni Reunion 2006 Weekend.

First serve in the ARC Arena is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
