The women's basketball team lost a heart-breaking two-point game to the Farmingdale State Rams on Tuesday night at the Lynch Sports Center in Farmingdale, New York.
The turning point of the game came in the latter stages of the second half, as Farmingdale State used a 12-point run to cut Baruch's advantage to two points (66-64) with five minutes left.
The teams traded baskets until there was 57 seconds left when junior Christine Daley (Elmont, NY/Elmont) stole the ball and gave Farmingdale the first and final lead with a fast break layup to make it, 74-72.
Junior Mercedes Miller (New York, NY/Manhattan Center) added another quick basket for the Rams to push the lead to four, 76-72.
The big run was enough for the victory, as the Bearcats could only got as close as three points (81-78) with seven seconds left.
Senior forward Racquel Reid (New York, N.Y./Washington Irving) led the Bearcats in scoring with 24 points and seven rebounds, while senior point guard Jody Trapp (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) had 15 points, three steals, and two assists.
Junior center Dominique McClendon (Chicago, III./Seaside) had another strong game with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Senior guard Ally Stamatiades (Astoria, N.Y./W.C. Bryant) recorded 14 points and six rebounds.
Mercedes Miller (New York, NY/Manhattan Center) led Farmingdale State with 20 points and 14 rebounds.
The Bearcats will return to action this Saturday with their home-opener against FDU-Florham. Tip off in the ARC Arena is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
