The baseball team swept Lehman College in a home conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at City Line Park in Brooklyn.

The Bearcats (5-4, 3-0 CUNYAC) won 11-7 and 15-14 to record their third consecutive win, all against Lehman (3-7, 2-3 CUNYAC) in this week's regular-season conference series.

In the first game, Lehman jumped out to a 2-0 lead in their top half of the first inning, but the Bearcats responded with four runs in the bottom of the first. That lead remained the rest of the way for the 11-7 win.

Sophomore Jonathan Perozo (Brooklyn, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt) went all seven innings to earn his first win, giving up seven runs (six earned) and striking out seven.

The offense was alive and led by senior Ray Mowatt (Bronx, N.Y./LaGuardia). He batted 3-for-5, with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Max  Loehrke (New York, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech) batted 2-for-4, with three RBI and one run scored.

Senior Arby Gega (Jamaica, N.Y./Hillcrest) added a 2-for-3 performance, with three runs scored and one RBI.

In the second game, the Bearcats jumped to a 6-0 lead after two innings, but Lehman responded with nine unanswered runs. The Lightning scored five runs in the third inning off of four errors, followed by two runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to go up, 9-6.

The Baruch bats came alive again in the bottom of the sixth inning, with four more runs to go back up, 10-9.

That set up an exciting and wild seventh inning, with Lehman scoring five runs to lead again, 14-10. However, Baruch scored five in the bottom of the seventh inning to win in comeback fashion, 15-14.

Freshman pitcher Ted Zhou (Flushing, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech) earned the game two win. He entered in relief with the bases loaded and one out in the top of seventh, and managed to pitch out of the jam without allowing a run to keep the Lehman advantage at 14-10.

Sophomore Cesar Chaves (Brooklyn, N.Y./James Madison) came through in clutch situations in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings, including recording the game-winning hit. He finished 2-for-3, with two RBI and two walks.

Freshman Joseph Valentin (Co-Op City, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton) went 1-for-2, with three runs scored, three walks, one RBI, and a stolen base.

Loehrke had four RBI in the game, giving him seven for the douleheader and nine total in the three-game series against Lehman.

Baruch will next play on Sunday with a non-conference doubleheader at New Jersey City. First pitch is scheduled for Noon.
