The baseball team lost a non-conference doubleheader to New Jersey City University on Sunday afternoon at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex in Jersey City, New Jersey.

The Bearcats (5-6, 3-0 CUNYAC) lost a hard-fought battle in the opener, 7-6, and dropped the second, 7-0, after being limited to two hits.

In the opener, Baruch staged a furious rally in their final a-bat of the seven inning, overcoming a 5-3 deficit to score three runs for a 6-5 lead.

Freshman Joseph Valentin (Co-Op City, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton) cleared the bases with a double for the one-run lead.

However, the home side Gothic Knights (11-9) rallied for two runs in their bottom half of the seventh inning to pull out the victory.

In the second game, Ahson Shahid (Harrison, N.J./Harrison) pitched a complete-game two-hitter with seven strikeouts. He received plenty of help on the offensive end, with the Gothic Knights scoring six runs in the first three innings. That was enough for the shutout victory.

Baruch had only two hits in the game on singles by Ray Mowatt (Bronx, N.Y./LaGuardia) and Alberto Nieves (Brooklyn, N.Y./Murry Bergtraum).

Baseball will return to action this Tuesday with a non-conference game at Polytechnic. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
