The softball team split a non-conference doubleheader against Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday afternoon at Fay Field in Yonkers, New York.

The Bearcats (6-4) won the opener, 6-5, in a comeback.

They trailed 5-4 in the fifth inning, but a a pair of ground outs by Daphne Pena (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton) and Sonia Sendoya (Queens, N.Y./Murry Bergtraum) each scored a run as part of the two-run fifth-inning to go up by the score of 6-5.

The solid pitching of Kathy Maher (Brooklyn, N.Y./James Madison) shut down the Dolphins the rest of the way for the victory. She recorded six strikeouts and allowed only four hits, while adding a double in one of her four plate appearances.

Senior Rose Tejada (New York, N.Y./Murry Bergtraum) batted 2-for-3 and scored one run.

The Bearcats dropped the second game, 6-3, as they were unable to create another comeback attempt.

The highlights included a home run by Maher and Tejada batted 2-for-3 again at the plate.

Softball will be in action tomorrow evening with a single conference road game at Medgar Evers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
