The baseball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader (16-7, 20-6) to SUNY-Farmingdale on Saturday afternoon in Farmingdale, New York.
In the opening game, the Rams of SUNY-Farmingdale (15-16) took advantage of 14 walks and 10 hits to put 16 runs across the plate, including a nine-run sixth inning to break open a 7-7 tie.
Rams sophomore designated hitter Rich Santoro (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) broke the tie in the sixth inning with a two-run triple to right field.
The Bearcats' offense (11 total hits) was led by senior Thomas Russo (Howard Beach, N.Y./St. Francis Prep), who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Freshman Joseph Valentin (Co-op City, N.Y./Dewitt Clinton) added a two-run double in the third and sophomore Max Loehrke (New York, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech) had three total hits in the opener.
In the nightcap, the Rams jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the opening inning and cruised to victory.
Rams freshman Anthony Thompson (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) went 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBI and two runs scored, while freshman Joe Sorrentino (Shoreman, N.Y./Shoreman Wading River) was 2-for-3 with a double, four RBI, and two runs scored.
Baruch (9-12) was led by Russo again, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Senior Alberto Nieves (Brooklyn, N.Y./Murry Bergtraum) recorded a single and double, and reached base six consecutive times during the doubleheader.
Baseball will return to action this Monday with a make up conference game against CCNY. First pitch at the American Legion Complex in Brooklyn is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
