BOX SCORE
The men's soccer team received goals from five different players to defeat Yeshiva, 8-1, in a non-conference soccer game played on Thursday night at the Met Oval in Maspeth, Queens.
Caner Yilmaz (Istanbul, Turkey) recorded a hat-trick in the second half, while Camilo Reyes (Bogota, Colombia/Woodlands) scored the first two goals to help give Baruch (4-3-1) their second consecutive victory.
The game was tightly contested in the early stages with Baruch holding a 2-1 lead through the first 40 minutes of action, but a third goal before halftime and five in the second half put the game out of reach.
Chaim Bar-Eli (Edison, N.J./RTMA) scored for Yeshiva (1-4) at the 17:26 mark to cut the deficit to 2-1, and that helped ignite their offense, as they almost scored again during two quick counterattacks.
Freshman Thomas Politano (Malverne, N.Y./Holy Cross) returned the momentum back to Baruch by scoring a big goal for a 3-1 lead just two minutes from the halftime whistle. Politano accepted a cross from Rafal Dziekanowski (Warsaw, Poland,/Forest Hills), and he found all the room he needed in the box to beat the goalkeeper for the game-turning goal.
Senior Thomas Murdoch (Queens, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) and freshman Konstantin Obuhovs (Brooklyn, N.Y./Lawrence) both scored in the second half to help Baruch set a team record with eight goals in one game.
The eight goals beat the record of seven scored during the last game against City Tech (7-1) on September 23.
Baruch will continue their busy schedule, which will see them play three games in the next six days, starting on Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. first-place conference showdown against Hunter College at the Met Oval.
