The men’s basketball team won for the third time in their last four games with a 59-52 home conference victory against Brooklyn College on Friday night in the ARC Arena.
Baruch (6-9, 4-2 CUNYAC) limited the Bridges to only 28 percent shooting (17-61), including a 3-for-21 mark from three-point range.
The Bearcats also outscored the Bridges (6-7, 0-6 CUNYAC) in the vital category of in-the-paint scoring with a 36-22 advantage.
Brooklyn led at halftime, 25-24, but the Bearcats started the second half by scoring the first seven points to lead 31-25 with 13:36 left.
The lead would twice grow to 10 points, as the Bearcats shot 48 percent in the second stanza to pull away for the victory.
The Bridges attempted to rally in the final two minutes, but could only get as close as five points (57-52) with 16 seconds.
Freshman Arki Wisnu (New York, N.Y./Newtown) led the Bearcats with 12 points, while Laurence Smith (Harlem, N.Y./Frederick Douglass), Brian Forrestal (New York, N.Y./St. Agnes Boys), and Adrian Serrano (Brooklyn, N.Y./Christ the King) each scored 10 points in a balanced evening for the emerging Bearcats. Forrestal also grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds.
Doyle and Corey McFarlane (Brooklyn, N.Y./Transit Tech) scored 14 points each for Brooklyn College.
