CUNYAC Weekly Report: Men's & Women's Swimming

The women’s swimming team lost 104-97 to Hunter College in a CUNY Athletic Conference meet on Friday night in the ARC Aquatic Center.

The meet was highly competitively, as the Bearcats led 93-91 with one event remaining, but the Hawks pulled out the victory by taking first and third place to take the big points in the 200 free relay for the overall 104-97 victory.

Freshman Jessica Penaherrera (Guayaquil, Ecuador/U.E.M.S.) had a solid evening for the Bearcats by winning the 800 free and 100 fly events.

Junior Annelie Gregor (Stockholm, Sweden/Huddinge) also won three events again by winning the 200 individual medley and 100 breast events.

She teamed with Penaherrera, freshman Grace Kim (Queens, N.Y./Francis Lewis), and junior Amber Flemming (New York, N.Y.) to win the 200 medley relay and set a school record.

Kim also won the 100 back and was third in the 200 I.M.

Junior Laura Tumulak (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame) won the 200 free, and placed second in the 100 free and 100 breast events.

The team of freshman Alena Korosteleva (Forest Hills, N.Y./Townsend Harris), freshman Keiko Akashi (Hillcrest, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy), freshman Angela Miranda (Lima, Peru/White Plains), and junior Cassandra Mendola (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) took second in the 200 free relay.
