The women’s basketball team continued their winning ways in conference play with a resounding 78-20 road victory at CCNY on Saturday afternoon.
The Bearcats (8-5, 4-0 CUNYAC) scored the first six points and quickly led 24-9 just 10 minutes into the contest.
The lead grew to 28 points at the intermission, as junior guard Chiresse Paradise (Chicago, III./Rich Central) finished the half with 12 points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals.
CCNY (0-11, 0-4 CUNYAC) struggled with 20 turnovers and only six baskets in the opening 20 minutes.
The second half started in much of the same way as the first, with the Bearcats scoring the first 12 points to go on to their 20th consecutive victory against CUNYAC opposition.
The Bearcats received scoring from 10 of 11 players with the bench playing significant minutes this afternoon at the Nat Holman Gymnasium.
Paradise, a fourth-team Preseason D3Hoops.com All-America, finished with a team-high 18 points and 10 steals, while Jody Trapp (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) and Ally Stamatiades (Astoria, N.Y./W.C. Bryant) each scored 12 points.
Junior guard Naesha Tyler-Moore (Chicago, III./Rich Central) contributed five steals and freshman forward Kaleia Davis (Bronx, N.Y./ Herbert H. Lehman) grabbed 10 rebounds for the second consecutive game.
Junior forward Yudelka Cepeda (Dominican Republic/Ricardo Ramirez) also grabbed six rebounds for the second consecutive game.
CCNY was led by Angelica Sze (Queens, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech) and Naomi Solano (Manhattan, N.Y./Aquinas) with eight points each.
The Bearcats will quickly return to action tomorrow, Sunday, January 7, with a 4:00 pm non-conference home game against DeSales University (8-3, 2-0 Freedom).
