The men’s volleyball team swept the Bridges of Brooklyn College in a conference match played on Thursday night in the ARC Arena.
The victory keeps the Bearcats undefeated in the conference (5-0), while the Bridges pick up their first conference loss (5-1).
The visitors started off in a positive fashion by jumping out to an 18-15 lead in the opening set, but the Bearcats responded, following a time out, with a strong run to pull away for the close 30-28 victory.
The Bearcats took better control to easily win the final two sets by the score of 30-20 and 30-17.
Greg Waldvogel (West Hempstead, N.Y./West Hempstead) led the Bearcats with 17 kills and two service aces, while Danial Levent (Forest Hills, N.Y./American Studies) nailed 10 kills.
Stephen Hansen (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) and Jonathan Tuwaidan (Woodside, N.Y./W.C. Bryant) combined for 47 assists.
Chris Bustos (Bialystok, Poland/Grover Cleveland) contributed eight digs in a solid defensive effort.
Brooklyn was led by David Mayerson (North Woodmere, N.Y./Lawrence) with 10 kills and seven assists.
The men’s volleyball team will return to action this Sunday with a non-conference home match against Yeshiva University. First serve in the ARC Arena, please note, is now scheduled for 1:00 pm.
