BOX SCORES: Game 1...Game 2

The young Bearcats stretched their winning streak to a season-high five games on Thursday afternoon with a doubleheader road sweep of John Jay College at Coleman Park in New York City.

In the opener, the game was tightly contested, but the Bearcats (10-11, 7-2 CUNYAC) broke it open with five runs in the top of the seventh inning to win, 9-2.

The key turning point in that final inning was a two-run double by senior Ally Stamatiades (Astoria, N.Y./W.C. Bryant) and an RBI single by freshman Cristina Cespedes (New York, N.Y./Art & Design).

Baruch opened their scoring in the top of the first with a sacrifice fly by freshman Melissa Pena (Queens, N.Y./W.C. Bryant) to record her 17th RBI of the season.

Freshman Idelissa Lluveres (Bronx, N.Y./Aquinas) hit a two-run single in the third inning for her 24th RBI of the season.

Cespedes finished with three singles and Stamatiades went the distance for the complete game victory.

In the second game, the Bearcats used an eight-run sixth inning to win big, 17-1.

Cespedes was the star again with two singles, a double, four runs scored, and a home run in the second inning to lead the offensive attack.

Juniors Melinda Dolan (Staten Island, N.Y./St. John Villa) and Lillian Gaton (New York, N.Y./J.F.K.) each had an RBI double and Pena added a double and single.

Lluveres scored three total runs and Stamatiades went the distance again for her seventh pitching victory of the 2007 season.

The softball team, currently in the midst of playing seven games in four days, will return to action again tomorrow (Friday) with a single conference road game against York College. First pitch at Haggerty Field in Jamaica, Queens is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
