The Bearcats trailed twice, but came back each time to take the lead to eventually pull out an 11-6 home win over Yeshiva University on Monday night at William Taft High School in the Bronx.
The Maccabees took a 2-0 lead in their first a-bat with a single and three walks, but Baruch responded with four runs in the bottom of the second inning to go up, 4-2.
Ariel Fernandez (Queens, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) walked in the first run and Ramon Grullon (Brooklyn, N.Y./Murry Bergtraum) singled home two others to help ignite the first comeback.
Yeshiva took another lead in the fifth inning by scoring four runs to go back up, 6-4. They scored via four walks, an error, two stolen bases, and a key two-run double by Jeremy Simons (Chicago, III/Ida Crown).
The big fifth inning by Yeshiva seemed to finally awaken the Bearcats, as they scored a run in the fifth, four in the sixth, and one each in the seventh and eight innings to win, 11-6.
Freshman David Chestnut (Brooklyn, N.Y./Nazareth) recorded the big hit in the sixth inning by hitting a double that bounced off the fence in left field to score two runs.
Yeshiva loaded the bases in the ninth inning, but senior Ricardo Estrada (Brooklyn, N.Y./Telecommunications) recorded the third out with a called third strike to earn the pitching victory.
Estrada entered the game in the top of the fifth inning and allowed only two hits and no runs in long relief.
The Bearcats received many contributions this evening with sophomore Wayne Bartley (Bronx, N.Y./Samuel Gompers) leading the way with a single, double, triple, and two RBI.
Freshman John Reyes (Brooklyn, N.Y./Samuel J. Tilden) hit two singles and scored twice.
Baruch will return to action tomorrow (Tuesday) with a 4:00 pm non-conference single game at New Jersey City University.
