CUNYAC WEEKLY REPORT: Softball & Baseball Week 6 (Lluveres Named Rookie of the Week)

BOX SCORE

The softball team defeated the College of St. Elizabeth in the first game of a doubleheader, 11-2, but the second game was called in the third inning due to the rain.

The Bearcats (13-14) had a solid first game by scoring four runs in the first inning, two in the second, one in the third, three in the fourth, and one in the fifth to wrap up the non-conference victory against St. Elizabeth.

Freshman Melissa Pena (Queens, N.Y./W.C. Bryant) was the star at the plate with two runs scored, a double, and an inside-the-park home run.

Freshman Melissa Mejia (Queens, N.Y./W.C. Bryant) pitched the complete game mercy-rule victory with nine hits allowed and one strike out.

St. Elizabeth was leading the Bearcats, 2-1, in the third inning, but the rain came and the umpires called it.

The Bearcats will hit the road for their next two encounters, starting on Friday with a 3:00 pm non-conference road doubleheader at Richard Stockton College in Pomona, New Jersey.

They will continue to travel south on Saturday to play Catholic University in a non-conference doubleheader scheduled for Noon in Washington, DC. This doubleheader will conclude their 2007 regular season schedule.

The team will then host its Second Annual Baruch vs. Softball Alumni Game on Sunday at Noon at Ammirati Field at Coleman Park in the Chinatown section of New York City. Prior to the exhibition game, the Bearcats will honor seniors Leidy Nunez and Ally Stamatiades.

The Current Baruch vs. Softball Alumni showdown will be an exciting battle with past players such as Kathy Maher, Nicole Errico, Jessica Terrusa, Rose Tejada, and Nathalie Laureano, to name a few from the past, playing for the alumni team.

Let the trash talking begin!
