The baseball team split a conference doubleader to CCNY on Saturday at a chilly Roberto Clemente State Park in the Bronx.
In the opener, the Bearcats trailed 5-1 heading into their final a-bat of the seventh inning, but rallied with three runs to get as close as 5-4.
They had the tying and winning run on the bases that same inning, but could not get them across the plate, as CCNY shut them down for the conference victory.
CCNY, which scored five runs on nine hits, scored three runs in the fourth inning to take control of the game early. Baruch was limited to five hits.
In the nightcap, the Bearcats picked up the victory behind the solid hitting and pitching
of freshman David Chestnut (Brooklyn, N.Y./Nazareth).
He pitched his first career collegiate complete game with a four-hitter and three strikeouts. At the plate, he had two hits and two RBI.
Junior Greg Polius (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Mary’s) also had two hits and two RBI.
The Bearcats jumped out early for the victory with two runs via two hits in the first inning.
The Bearcats will finish their series with CCNY with a road game on Monday afternoon. First pitch at American Legion Field is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
In other team news, the single non-conference game on Thursday, April 12th, against Mount Saint Vincent will be played on the Division I baseball field of Fordham University. Mount Saint Vincent will serve as the home team.
