CUNYAC Weekly Soccer Report - 9/12/07

The men’s soccer team suffered a goal 57 seconds into the second overtime to fall to John Jay College, 1-0, in a home match played on Wednesday night at the Met Oval Soccer Complex in Maspeth, Queens.

Despite the loss, the Bearcats recorded their largest home crowd (257) in team history for a regular season conference match played at the historic Met Oval.

Junior defender Hiromi Karahashi (Kanagawa, Japan/St. Johnsburg) scored the goal to end 100 minutes of scoreless action on assists from Daniel Vargas (Corona, N.Y./Arts and Business) and Steve Castillo (Maspeth, N.Y./Forest Hills).

The Bearcats, who have now lost two matches this season in overtime, did out-shoot the Bloodhounds, 14-9, but were unable to put the game-winner in the back of the net.

Freddy Carrasco-Dance (East Elmhurst, N.Y./William C. Bryant), who was named the CUNYAC Rookie of the Week, recorded four shots to lead the Bearcats.

Sophomore goalkeeper Nelson DiBastiano (Rego Park, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) had another solid evening in front of the net with five saves.

The Bearcats will return to action with a conference road match on Saturday against Brooklyn College. Kick off is scheduled for Noon at the College of Staten Island soccer complex.
