Another Heartbreaker, Bearcats Lose to William Paterson in Five-Game Tie-Breaker

CUNYAC Weekly Volleyball Report - 9/12

The Pioneers from William Paterson University rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat the Bearcats in five (25-30, 30-15, 30-28, 27-30, 9-15) in an exciting non-conference match played on Thursday evening in Wayne, New Jersey.

The score was tied 8-8 in the fifth and deciding game, but the Pioneers scored seven of the final eight points to clinch the 15-9 victory.

The visiting Bearcats were led by junior Nicole Baruffaldi (Ossining, NY/Ossining) with 14 kills, 13 digs, and five service aces.

The freshmen had another solid match with setter Kristin Walker (Fayettevillle, Arkansas/Fayetteville) dishing out 44 assists and three services aces, while Lauren Palmer (Fort Worth, Texas/W.E. Boswell) notched 17 kills with an impressive hitting percentage of .437.

Karlee Whipple (Lund, Nevada/Lund) was a factor on the defensive end with 14 digs.

William Paterson (7-1) were led this evening by Kelly Helfrich (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) with 17 kills, 12 digs and three block solos.
