BOX SCORE
The men’s soccer team scored three goals in the first half to defeat the Bridges of Brooklyn College, 3-1, in a CUNYAC road match played on Saturday afternoon at the College of Staten Island.
The Bearcats started their best offensive output of the season with a goal in the 22nd minute by Aykan Yurdacan (Istanbul, Turkey/Abraham Lincoln). He took a cross from Camilo Reyes (Bogota, Colombia/Woodlands) and tapped-in the opening goal for the 1-0 lead.
Senior Caner Yilmaz (Queens, N.Y./Istanbul-Turkey) raised the advantage to two goals five minutes later. Yurdacan was a factor again in the play by feeding a pass that enabled Yilmaz to beat the goalkeeper one-on-one for the 2-0 score.
The Bearcats scored the third in the 37th minute when Edgar Acero (Bogota, Colombia/Greenport) keenly intercepted a pass from the defense and fired a sharp angle shot for his first goal of the season.
The Bridges kept the Bearcats off the scoreboard in the second half and scored their lone goal of the afternoon in the 49th minute on a strike by Vasilios Mantagas (Brooklyn, N.Y./James Madison).
Baruch will next return to action on Wednesday night with a home match against the New York City College of Technology. Kick off at the Met Oval is scheduled for 8:00 pm.
