The women’s volleyball team defeated the Cyclones of Centenary College (30-22, 27-30, 30-16, 30-26) and lost to the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University (30-24, 30-18, 30-17) on Thursday night in the ARC Arena.
In the opener against New Jersey City (11-1), Karlee Whipple (Lund, Nevada/Lund) and Lauren Palmer (Fort Worth, Texas/W.E. Boswell) each recorded five kills. Whipple also contributed a game-high 12 digs.
Freshman setter Kristin Walker (Fayetteville, Arkansas/Fayetteville) dished out 20 assists and Nicole Baruffaldi (Ossining, NY/Ossining) notched a team-high three service aces.
New Jersey City Head Coach Christopher Feliciano won his 100th career game in his fourth season at the helm of the volleyball program.
In the second match, the Bearcats defeated Centenary (4-11) for the second straight season.
Baruffaldi had a monster game with 17 kills (.256) and 12 digs, while Palmer had 12 kills (.281) and five service aces.
Walker (34 assists, eight digs), Whipple (seven service aces), Lizmarie Vasquez (Bronx, NY/Lehman) 11 digs, and Staren Soanes (Dominica, West Indies/Norman Thomas) with seven solo blocks helped round out a solid overall team performance in the non-conference victory.
