The baseball team put together a strong effort against Manhattanville but fell 8-7 in a non-conference road game played on Thursday afternoon in Purchase, New York.
Baruch had 13 hits and led 7-5 midway through the fifth inning, but the Valiants scored the final three runs to pull out the 8-7 home victory.
Ramon Grullon (Brooklyn, N.Y./Murry Bergtraum), Benjamin Riofrio (Queens, N.Y./Richmond Hills) and Joseph Valentin (Bronx, N.Y./Dewitt Clinton) had two hits each.
John Avona (Staten Island, N.Y./Farrell) and Patrick Westrick (Staten Island, N.Y./S.I. Technical) each batted 3-for-4 with one RBI. The rookie Avona also had two stolen bases.
Greg Polius (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Mary’s) smacked his third home run of the season with a two-run shot in the fourth inning.
Stephen Pinto (Yonkers, N.Y./Iona Prep) went 3-for-3 with four stolen bases to lead Manhattanville to their 13th win of the season.
The baseball team will return to action on Saturday with a home conference doubleheader against CUNYAC associate baseball member Mitchell College. First pitch at the baseball field of Westchester Community College is scheduled for Noon.
