The softball team won their 12th game with a doubleheader split against Rutgers-Newark on Thursday afternoon at Alumni Field in Newark, New Jersey.

In the first game, the Bearcats trailed early, 2-0, but came back against the Scarlet Raiders with a run in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth to take the lead, 3-2.

Unfortunately, the Scarlet Raiders took the lead again for good with two runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth inning to end their 10-game losing streak with the 4-3 home win.

For Baruch, freshman DH/3B Alexandra Orrico (Bronx, N.Y./Preston) hit her second home run of the season with a solo shot in the fourth inning.

Sophomore SS Melissa Pena (Queens, N.Y./W.C. Bryant) and senior 2B Sonia Sendoya (Queens, N.Y./Murry Bergtraum) each scored via fielding errors in the top of the fifth inning.

Sophomore P Melissa Mejia (Queens, N.Y./W.C. Bryant) pitched a solid game in allowing only two earned runs.

In the second game, Baruch scored the first six runs to cruise to a 6-0 lead after four innings to help clinch the game two road victory.

Freshman P Andrea Tepfer (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan Wagner) recorded her 8th win of the season by pitching another complete game (7IP, 4H, 1ER, 6K).

Melissa Pena was brilliant at the plate by batting a perfect 4-for-4, with three runs scored, including an RBI single to score senior LF Cynthia Duran (New York, N.Y./Murry Bergtraum) in the second inning.

Sophomore C Idelissa Lluveres (Bronx, N.Y./Aquinas) and Cynthia Duran batted 2-for-3 each, as part of Baruch’s total 13-hit attack. Lluveres also added two RBI and one run scored.
