The baseball team lost a 7-2 non-conference road game to the State University of New York at Purchase on Thursday afternoon in Purchase, New York. 

The game was tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the eight inning, but Purchase then scored five runs on four hits and three errors to pull away for the 7-2 victory.

David Chestnut (Brooklyn, N.Y./Nazareth) pitched a solid game (7IP, 6K) for the first seven innings and did not allow a Purchase hit until the fifth inning. Unfortunately, Purchase’s bats came alive in the eight inning against Chestnut to break the tie with five runs. 

Ronnie Rojas (Brooklyn, N.Y./Nazareth) went 2-for-4 at the plate, while Benjamin Riofrio (Queens, N.Y./Richmond Hill), Juan Adorno (Bronx, N.Y./All Hallows), Joseph Valentin (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton), and Daniel Kehoe (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream) each had one hit.

Chestnut drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, while Greg Polius (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Mary’s) recorded an RBI ground out to score Riofrio. 

The baseball team will return to action this Thursday with a 5:00 pm non-conference road game at Mount Saint Mary in Newburgh, New York. (Please note revised time).
