The City College of New York swept a conference doubleheader against the Bearcats on Saturday afternoon in Farmingdale, New York.

In the opener, the visiting Bearcats jumped out early to a 5-1 advantage, but the Beavers would score the final seven runs, including four in the fifth inning, to pull away for the game one victory.

Joseph Valentin (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton) and John Reyes (Brooklyn, N.Y./Samuel J. Tilden) had two singles each, while Greg Polius (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Mary's) added a double, stolen base and run scored.

In the second game, David Chestnut (Brooklyn, N.Y.Nazareth) hit a three-run homer in the top of the seventh inning to help Baruch take a dramatic 7-5 lead.

Unfortunately, the Beavers responded quickly in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run homer to tie the game and a bases loaded walk to clinch the 8-7 comeback victory in their final at bat

Chestnut finished with a homer, triple, single and run scored, while Benjamin Riofrio (Queens, N.Y./Richmond Hills) had a solid game by batting 3-for-4, with three singles, two runs scored and one stolen base.

The weekend conference series will conclude on Sunday night with Baruch hosting CCNY in a single game scheduled for 7:30 pm at Roberto Clemente State Park in the Bronx.
