BOX SCORE

The Bearcats knocked off the City College of New York, 15-3, in a CUNYAC game on Sunday night at Roberto Clemente State Park in the Bronx.

The game was called by the umpires with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, due to a park curfew.

Jeffrey Tapia (Bronx, N.Y./All Hallows) recorded seven strikeouts and allowed only two earned runs to lead the team to their second conference victory.

The Bearcats scored three runs in the third inning with Joseph Valentin (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton) hitting a double to drive home two runs.

They scored three more in the fourth inning, highlighted on a two-run triple by Greg Polius (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Mary’s), and added a lone run in the fifth inning on a bases loaded walk by Ramon Grullon (Brooklyn, N.Y./Murry Bergtraum).

Baruch broke it open in the sixth inning with eight runs, including a key two-run single by David Chestnut (Brooklyn, N.Y./Nazareth), to help put the game out of reach for the visiting Beavers.

Finally, with the end of the five-game losing streak, head coach Jose Torres will keep his promise and shave his week-old beard.

The baseball team will return to action on Tuesday with a 4:00 pm road game at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in King's Point, New York.
