The women’s volleyball team swept the Bloodhounds from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in a CUNY Athletic Conference match on Tuesday night in the ARC Arena.
With the exception of the first three points of the third set, the Bearcats (5-4, 2-1 CUNYAC) led the entire evening to post their fifth win of the season. In addition, they also stretch their winning streak in the ARC Arena to six in a row, dating back to the 2007 season.
Nicole Baruffaldi (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining), Mayra Estepan (Jackson Heights, N.Y./Francis Lewis) and Martina Micko (Czech Republic/Glen Cove) each had six kills to lead the attack. Micko also contributed a team-high five service aces.
Kristin Walker (Fayetteville, Arkansas/Fayetteville) was the thrust behind the offense again with 19 assists, while Posey Wilson (Fayetteville, Arkansas/Fayetteville) and Baruffaldi notched seven digs each.
In other special team news, Posey Wilson was honored for her outstanding performances by being named the CUNY Athletic Conference Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week for games between September 6-12.
Wilson was a stalwart in the back row during the Bearcats' 3-1 week (1-1 CUNYAC), averaging 3.5 digs and 0.64 service aces per game.
Among her weekly highlights were a four-ace, 14-dig performance in a three-game victory over Polytechnic (Sept. 11), as well as a match-high 22 digs against Hunter (Sept. 13).
The women’s volleyball team will return to action this Thursday with a non-conference match against William Paterson University. First serve in the ARC Arena is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
