Swimming Teams Score Big Against Lehman College on Senior Night

The men’s and women’s swimming teams each posted victories on Monday night in a conference encounter against Lehman College in the ARC Aquatic Center.

The men won 133-71 to record their sixth win of the season, while the women won 112-69 to even their record at 6-6.

During the second break of the meet, the entire Baruch swimming team honored Brian Ramirez, Irina Statina, and Keiko Akashi on Senior Night.

Assistant coach/women's swimming alum Joyce Hsu and men’s swimming alum Igor Gorodetskiy acted on behalf of the team by presenting flowers to Ramirez and Statina. Akashi, who left a few days ago for study abroad in Greece, was honored in her absence.

The women’s team will return to action Thursday, January 15, with a 6:00 pm conference meet at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

The men’s team will resume action next Monday, January 19, with a 6:00 pm non-conference meet at St. Francis College of Brooklyn.

Women’s Highlights (6-6, 3-1 CUNYAC)

** Grace Kim, Priscilla Arana, Jessica Penaherrera and Tiffany Wong started the evening with a quick victory in the 200 medley relay.

** Arana also went on to record individual victories in the 50 free and 100 breastroke events.

** Penaherrera recorded another three-win night with victories in the 100 fly and 200 I.M.

** Grace Kim also had a solid evening with first place in the 100 back, while Tiffany Wong came in first in both the 100 and 200 free events.

** Senior Irina Statina finished her last home meet with first place victories in the arduous 400 and 800 free distance events.

Men’s Highlights (6-3, 2-1 CUNYAC)

** The evening began on a high note with Camilo Reyes, Jeffrey Wong, R. Michael Shiwnath and Benjamin Chu winning the 200 medley relay.

** Camilo Reyes joined senior Brian Ramirez, Idan Saragosti, and Justin Wong in setting the school record with a victory in the 200 free relay. 

** Shiwnath also won the 100 fly and 100 back events, while Chu recorded an individual victory in the 400 free and placed second in the 800 free distance event.

** Idan Saragosti won the 200 free and established another freshmen/school record in winning the 100 free event.

** Jeffrey Wong won the 100 breastroke and Brian Ramirez had a solid Senior Night by winning the 50 free.
