Hunter Edges Bearcats in Exciting Conference Showdown

1/9/2009 9:43:03 PM

The Hawks of Hunter College touched-out the Bearcats by 1/10th of a second in the final 200 freestyle relay to pull out an exciting 107-98 victory on Friday night in the ARC Aquatic Center.

With the victory, the Hawks capture the regular season championship by finishing 5-0 in the standings. The Bearcats, who still have a pair of conference meets remaining against Lehman (Monday night) and John Jay (Jan.15), drop to 2-1.

The Bearcats won six of the 10 events leading up to the 200 free relay, but the Hawks gathered enough points to force the final event showdown between both rivals.

Angela Haskell, Olga Kavalkova, Gloria Reyna  and Kelsey Purcell were the victorious relay team for Hunter in the victory-clinching final event.
