Women's Volleyball Sweep 1st Place CCNY, Carissa Hoover Named CUNYAC Rookie of the Week

The women’s volleyball team recorded a significant victory against CCNY by the scores of 25-20, 25-19, 25-23 in a CUNYAC match played on Tuesday night at Nat Holman Gymnasium.

With the victory, the Bearcats raise their record to 18-7 overall and 7-1 in CUNYAC, while CCNY drop to 16-8 overall. The also suffer their first loss to go 7-1 in CUNYAC.

Most importantly, the Bearcats coached by Allison Gunther join Hunter and CCNY in a three way tie for first place in the standings.

Senior Mayra Estepan led the Bearcats to their finest win of the regular season with eight kills and 10 digs, while Christina Pierre notched seven kills.

Carissa Hoover, the CUNYAC Rookie of the Week, recorded five aces, three kills and 10 digs in another solid performance.

Lauren Hayden had three blocks and Posey Wilson joined Estepan and Hoover in finishing with 10 digs each. Melinda Santiago dished out 21 assists.

The women’s volleyball team will return to action on Saturday by competing at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Tri-Match in King’s Point, New York.

The Bearcats will play the host school, Kean University, and William Paterson University in a busy day of action against regional competition that will begin at 11:00 am.
