CSI 9, Baruch 8 Box Score

The Dolphins from the College of Staten Island finished off a successful weekend against the Bearcats by winning Sunday’s non-conference encounter by the score of 9-8.

Per conference rules, the first two games played this weekend counted toward the CUNYAC standings, while Sunday’s single game enters the statistics book as a non-conference affair.

The visiting Bearcats led the first game early on a hot afternoon with a 3-1 lead, but the Dolphins fought back with five runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 6-3 advantage.

The Bearcats scored two runs in each of the fifth and seventh innings to take back the lead, 7-6, but Staten Island responded again offensively with three runs in their bottom half of the seventh inning to lead, 9-7. Those runs stood in the end to help the home team record the eventual 9-8 victory.

Jorge Rosado, Benjamin Riofrio and Manuel Guerrero led the Bearcats with two hits each. Rosado also scored four runs.

Marcos Mejia slammed his second homer of the season in the second inning.

The Bearcats lost both ends of a home doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at the baseball field at Westchester Community College in Valhalla, New York.

In the opener, the College of Staten Island took the early lead with three runs in the first inning.

They maintained that advantage for most of the game until Joseph Valentin slammed a two-run homer to deep centerfield to give Baruch their only lead, 4-3, as part of a three-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The visiting Dolphins quickly responded in their final at-bat with two more runs to take back the lead, 5-4, and that was enough to clinch the opening-game victory on a hot afternoon.

In the second game, Staten Island scored at least one run in every inning, except for their first at-bat, to go on to the high-scoring 13-7 victory.

Steve Hession batted 3-for-4 for the Dolphins, as part of their overall 15-hit attack.

Jorge Rosado and David Chestnut had two hits each for Baruch. Rosado also slammed his sixth homer of the season in the second inning to finish the game with four total RBI.
